This former town is located in Nakagami District, Okinawa Prefecture, and consists of the northern half of the Yokatsu (Katsuren) Peninsula in the center of Okinawa Island, as well as the islands of Henza, Miyagi, and Ikei. In 1994, Yonagusuku Village was renamed and incorporated as a town. The peninsula and the main outlying islands are connected by land reclamation, undersea roads, and bridges. Agriculture is centered on sugar cane, with watermelons and melons also grown. In the 1970s, an oil storage facility was built on Henza Island, completely changing the ocean scenery that had been designated Yokatsu Marine Park. In April 2005, it merged with Ishikawa City, Gushikawa City, and Katsuren Town in Nakagami District to become Uruma City. 18.84 km2 . Population: 13,261 (2003).
