Turf maze

Turf mazes remain in various places, mainly in England, and many of them seem to have been used for competitions during village festivals. The pattern is generally the same as that of the floors of Gothic cathedrals mentioned above, and it is thought that they probably originated at the same time. Furthermore, labyrinth designs of the ancient Roman residential type or Gothic cathedral type were also created using hedges in Renaissance gardens, and in these cases too, they are thought to have had a certain kind of talismanic meaning.
