...From the end of the Meiji period to the beginning of the Taisho period, a rational and clean lifestyle was actively proposed, such as "For the convenience of washing, a white sheet should be placed over the futon" (New Housework Textbook, 1912, etc.). Furthermore, "The futon should be covered with a white cloth to avoid the trouble of washing, and replaced before it becomes too dirty" (New Housework Textbook, 1918, Housework Textbook, 1925), and sheets were sold as futon covers, as the term is now used, and sheets and quilt covers became popular mainly in cities during World War II. They were all white cotton, but from around the 1940s, colored and patterned sheets began to be made in the United States, and from around the 1960s, works by fashion designers also appeared and spread all over the world. ...
