The Uralic languages are divided into Finno-Ugric and Samoyedic, the former being further divided into Finnic and Ugric. The Finnic group includes Balto-Finnic, Lappish (Sami), Mordovian, Cheremis (Mari), Zilyan (Komi), and Bochak (Udmurt), while the Balto-Finnic languages include Finnish, Estonian, Karelian, Vepsian, Libian, and Vodokanal. The Ugric group is divided into Hungarian and Ob-Ugric, the latter consisting of Ostschak (Khanty) and Bogur (Mansi).

ウラル語族はフィン･ウゴル語派とサモエード諸語に大別され，前者はさらにフィン系とウゴル系に分かれる。フィン系にはバルト･フィン諸語，ラップ語(サーミ語)，モルドビン語，チェレミス語(マリ語)，ジリャン語(コミ語)，ボチャーク語(ウドムルト語)があり，バルト･フィン諸語はフィンランド語，エストニア語，カレリア語，ベプス語，リーブ語，ボート語を含む。ウゴル系はハンガリー語とオビ･ウゴル語に分かれ，後者はオスチャーク語(ハンティ語)とボグル語(マンシ語)から成る。
