A city in Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeship in northern Poland. In German it is called Kulm. It is located on the right bank of the Wisla River, about 40 km northeast of Bydgoszcz. A 10th century fortress. One of the bases of the Teutonic Knights from 1230. It prospered after joining the Hanseatic League in the 14th century. It became part of Poland in 1466, but became part of Prussia in 1772, and was returned in 1920. Brick, furniture, and other manufacturing industries are carried out here. There are many medieval ruins, and it is also famous as a tourist destination. Population: about 100,000.
