La Volta (English spelling)

Japanese: ボルタ[川]（英語表記）La Volta

A river in western Africa. It originates mainly in Burkina Faso (formerly Upper Volta), flows through Ghana, and empties into the Gulf of Guinea. It is about 1,600 km long and has a drainage area of about 400,000 km2. The upper reaches are made up of three tributaries, the Volta Noir (Black Volta), the Volta Blanche (White Volta), and the Volta Rouge (Red Volta). The Volta Noir originates in the hills in the southwest of Upper Volta, flows northeastward, turns southeastward near Kouri, and then turns south to form the border between Côte d'Ivoire and Ghana, before turning eastward in central Ghana and merging with the Volta Blanche.

アフリカ西部の川。主としてブルキナファソ(旧オートボルタ)に源を発し，ガーナを貫流してギニア湾に注ぐ。長さ約1600km。流域面積約40万km2。上流はそれぞれボルタ･ノアール(黒ボルタ)，ボルタ･ブランシュ(白ボルタ)，ボルタ･ルージュ(赤ボルタ)と呼ばれる支流河川からなる。ボルタ･ノアールはオートボルタ南西部の丘陵に源を発し，まず北東方向に流れ，クーリ付近で流れを南東方向に変え，さらに南に流路を変えてコートジボアールとガーナの国境をなし，ガーナ中部で東に向かい，ボルタ･ブランシュと合流する。
