Indanthrene

Also known simply as threne dyes. They have anthraquinone aromatic polycyclic structure. A general term for a group of fast vat dyes. They are mainly used for cotton, but some are also used for paper, silk, and wool. They have a wide variety of vivid hues, and occupy an important position alongside azo dyes, but they are difficult to manufacture and relatively expensive. Most are derivatives of anthraquinone and anthrone, synthesized from raw materials such as anthracene through a multi-step reaction, but there are also thioindigo derivatives.

単にスレン染料ともいう。アントラキノン系芳香族多環構造をもつ。堅牢な建染め染料 (バット染料) の一群の総称。主として木綿に使われるが，紙や絹，羊毛に使われるものもある。色相が鮮明でしかも豊富であり，アゾ染料と並んで重要な位置を占めるが製造がむずかしく，価格は比較的高価である。大部分はアントラキノンおよびアントロンの誘導体でアントラセンなどを原料とし，多段階反応を経て合成されるが，チオインジゴ誘導体もある。
