Kai Kā'ūs (English spelling)

A Persian ruler of the Ziyarid (Jarl) dynasty (reigned 1050-1087). He is known as the author of the Book of Qabus, a book of instruction that he wrote in 1082 for his beloved son Gilan Shah (reigned 1087-1090). As a prince and ruler of a minor dynasty, he experienced many hardships from his youth, but he wrote the book based on his experiences and knowledge, citing historical anecdotes. Although he is virtually unknown in political history, this book has earned him immortality.

ペルシアの地方王朝ズィヤール朝（ジャール朝）の君主（在位1050～1087）。1082年、愛息ギーラーン・シャーGilan Shah（在位1087～1090）のために執筆した教訓書『カーブースの書』の著者として知られる。小王朝の王子、君主として青年時代からさまざまな苦労を経験するが、その体験と知識に基づき、歴史上の逸話を引きながら同書を執筆。政治史上は無名に近いが、この一書によって不朽の名声を得た。
