Teal moth - Teal moth
A general term for insects belonging to the Lepidoptera order, family Gelechiidae. The name comes from the pair of lower lip barbels that protrude from both sides of the rear base of the proboscis, which resemble fangs. Small moths found worldwide, with 75 species known in Japan. These include the potato moth (sweet potato, morning glory), potato moth (potato, eggplant, tomato, tobacco, chili pepper, ground cherry), and cereal moth (grains), whose larvae are considered important pests.

鱗翅目キバガ科Gelechiidaeに属する昆虫の総称。口吻(こうふん)の基部後方の両側から出る1対の下唇鬚(かしんしゆ)が,きば状に突出しているのでこの名がある。全世界に分布する小型のガで,日本には75種知られている。イモキバガ(サツマイモ,ヒルガオ),ジャガイモキバガ(バレイショ,ナス,トマト,タバコ,トウガラシ,ホオズキ),バクガ(穀類)のように,幼虫が重要な害虫とされているものを含んでいる。
