King Bird of Paradise

A passerine bird of the family Caprifoliidae. Total length is about 16 cm (males are about 31 cm long including the long tail). The male's head, neck, back, wings, and tail are bright red, and its belly is white. There is a green horizontal band on the chest. There are small fan-shaped ornamental feathers on the sides of the upper chest, which are gray at the base and have a green horizontal band at the tip that is very similar to the horizontal band on the chest. The two central tail feathers are long and wire-like, with green, slightly wider tips that curl into a disk shape. The female's plumage is a blend of colors, with the head, back, upper wings, and tail being brown, and the chest and abdomen being yellowish-brown with thin dark brown horizontal bands.
