Banten (English spelling) banteng

It is a mammalian animal of the order Artiodactyla and family Bovidae. It lives in the forests of Java, Borneo, the Malay Peninsula, and Myanmar (Burma). It is a large animal, with males reaching a body length of 3 meters, a body height of 1.5 meters, a tail length of 85 cm, and a weight of 700 to 800 kilograms. Females are slightly smaller. Both sexes have horns, which are about 50 to 60 centimeters long. The body color is black-brown in males, while females and young animals are light brown, with white spots on the rump, and the lower parts of the limbs are white. It is a forest animal that lives in herds of 8 to 20 individuals and eats grass, leaves, fruit, etc. The gestation period is 270 to 300 days, and one baby is born at a time. The baby is brownish-brown. It becomes breeding-ready at about 2 years old. Its life span is 10 to 15 years.

哺乳(ほにゅう)綱偶蹄(ぐうてい)目ウシ科の動物。ジャワ島、ボルネオ島、マレー半島、ミャンマー（ビルマ）の森林地帯に生息する。大形の動物で、雄で体長3メートル、体高1.5メートル、尾長85センチ、体重700～800キログラムに達する。雌はやや小形。角(つの)は雌雄いずれにもあり、長さ50～60センチメートルほどである。体色は、雄で黒褐色、雌や幼獣は淡褐色、臀部(でんぶ)に白色斑(はん)があり、四肢の下方は白色。森林性の動物で、8～20頭の群れをつくり、草、樹葉、果実などを食べる。妊娠期間は270～300日で、1産1子。子は茶褐色。生後2年ほどで繁殖可能となる。寿命は10～15年。
