Eurystheus

A character in Greek mythology. Son of Sthenelus. Before the birth of Hercules, Zeus proclaimed that the descendant of Perseus would become king of Mycenae. Hera, hearing this, ordered her daughter, the goddess of childbirth, Eileithyia, to delay the birth of Hercules, so that Heracles was born first. As a result, she became the master of Heracles and made him suffer by imposing 12 difficult labors. After the death of Heracles, she continued to persecute his children, and was eventually killed by Iolaus, Hercules' nephew and faithful servant.

ギリシア神話の人物。ステネロスの息子。ヘラクレスの誕生する前に，やがて生れるペルセウスの子孫がミケーネの王になるとゼウスが宣言するのを聞いたヘラが，娘の出産の女神エイレイテュイアに命じて，ヘラクレスの出生を遅らせ，彼のほうを先に生れさせたためにヘラクレスの主君となり，彼に 12の難事業を課して苦しめた。ヘラクレスの死後も彼の子供たちに迫害を加え，最後にはヘラクレスの甥で忠実な従者であったイオラオスに殺されたという。
