Communist League (English spelling: Bund der Kommunisten; Communist League)

Communist League (English spelling: Bund der Kommunisten; Communist League)
The first international secret organization of the working class, led by K. Marx and F. Engels. The League began as the League of Exiles, which was formed in 1834 by German communist refugees living in Paris. In 1836, the left wing of this league, mainly consisting of artisans and radical intelligentsia, organized the League of the Just. Since 1843, through the activities of Engels and Marx, the League of the Just had changed its basic theory from the conspiratorial communism of W. Weitling and others to scientific communism. In June 1847, the League held a conference in London and changed its name to the Communist League. At the same time, the slogan was changed from "All men are brothers" to "Proletarians of all countries, unite!" Its theoretical and practical platform was drafted by Marx and Engels and published in 1848 as the Communist Manifesto. Due to internal political conflicts and organizational divisions in 1950 and the destruction of the Cologne Communist Party branch in a mass arrest in 1951, it became difficult to run the organization, and at Marx's suggestion it was dissolved in 1952.
