A perennial plant of the Campanulaceae family, distributed from the Kanto region westward to the Nansei Islands and Taiwan. It commonly grows in sunny, dry roadsides and fields. It has long roots and thin stems that are 20-40 cm tall. The leaves are lanceolate, 2-5 cm long, hairy, and have slightly thick, white edges. Flowers appear from May to August, one at a time, facing upward at the end of the branches. The sepals are lanceolate and upright, and remain persistent even after flowering. The corolla is a bluish-purple funnel several mm in diameter, deeply lobed into five pieces, and opens into a star shape. The capsules are upright and dehiscent when ripe. キキョウ科の多年草で,関東以西から南西諸島,台湾にかけて分布する。日当りのよい乾いた路傍や野原に普通に生える。長い根があり,茎は細く高さ 20~40cmである。葉は長さ2~5cmの披針形で,毛があり,縁はやや厚く白色となる。花は5~8月に,枝先に1個ずつ上向きにつく。萼片は披針形で直立し,花後も宿存する。花冠は径数 mmの青紫色の漏斗状で5片に深く裂け,星形に開く。 蒴果は直立し熟すると裂開する。
