Ibn Khurdādhbeh

Japanese: イブン･フルダーズベ（英語表記）Ibn Khurdādhbeh

A famous Iranian geographical writer, written between 820 and 912. He grew up in Baghdad, and served as the postmaster general of Baghdad and Samarra, starting from Jibal in Iran, under the Abbasid Caliph Mu'tamid (reigned 870-892). His extensive experience was put to good use in his "Travels and Countries," which took many years to complete in the late 9th century, and was a respected guide for administrators and general travelers of the time. In addition to a list of post stations within the Islamic Empire, this book also contains valuable descriptions of areas outside the empire (including China and Korea).

イラン系の著名な地誌著述家。バグダードに育ち，イランのジバールを振出しにバグダード，サーマッラーの駅逓長官を務め，アッバース朝カリフ，ムータミド(在位870‐892)に仕えた。9世紀後半長い年月を要して完成された《道里および諸国記》にはその豊富な経験が生かされ，当時の行政官，一般旅行者の手引書として尊重された。本書はイスラム帝国内の宿駅のリストのほか，帝国外地域(中国，朝鮮も)に関する貴重な描写を含む。
