[origin] In ancient times, people who spoke languages belonging to the Indo-Iranian branch of the Indo-European language family moved eastward to the Indian subcontinent, while the other moved westward and southward to settle in Iran. Therefore, the names of gods and mythological content in the Avesta, the first Iranian document, have many similarities with those found in the Indian Vedic documents (especially the oldest, the Rig-Veda). During the Indo-Iranian common period dating back to the 2nd millennium BCE, gods were broadly divided into two groups: the Daevas/Devas (the Sanskrit form after the /) and the Ahuras/Asuras.
