…The shrine enshrines Takeuchi no Sukune. Kamegane-no-Oka behind the main shrine is thought to be an ancient tomb, but it is said that this is where Takeuchi no Sukune hid himself, leaving behind two sandals, when he descended to this province. The Shoku Nihon Koki records that in July 848 (Kasho 1), when a fire broke out to the west of the provincial capital, the shrine was given the rank of Jugoi (Junior Fifth Rank) for its merit in putting an end to the fire at the request of the provincial governor, and was ranked among the official shrines. It was subsequently promoted to Shosanmi (Senior Third Rank) in 878 (Gangei 2), and was designated a Myojin Taisha (Great Shrine) under the Engi system, and later the Ichinomiya (Ichinomiya) of Inaba Province, and also served as the main shrine. …

…武内宿禰（たけうちのすくね）命をまつる。本社うしろの亀金丘（かめがねのおか）は古墳とみられるが武内宿禰が当国へ下向のとき，二つの履をのこして身をかくしたところと伝承する。《続日本後紀》に848年(嘉祥1)7月，国府の西に失火のあったとき，国司の祈願で火のやんだ功で従五位下に叙し，官社に列したとあるが，以後昇叙し，878年(元慶2)正三位となり，延喜の制で名神大社，のち因幡国の一宮とされ，また総社も兼ねた。…
