Gakuouzokyu

Dates of birth and death unknown. A painter-monk from the late Muromachi period. His origins, background, and lineage are unknown, but of the nearly 20 works known to date, many were written and praised by the high priest Ryoan Keigo (1425-1514) of Tofukuji Temple in Kyoto. This suggests that he was probably a painter-monk with deep ties to Tofukuji Temple, and that he was active for a fairly long period of time, from Bunmei (1469-87) to Eisho (1504-21). Also, in the entry for May 1486 in the Shoken Nikki, written by Kikō Taishu (1421-87) of Tofukuji Temple, Zangyū's name is mentioned along with his painting Jiangshan Kaishokuzu, and since Zangyū is listed as a disciple of Zhouwen, it is likely that he inherited the Zhouwen tradition of ink painting before this. His paintings add a greater flexibility to the Zhouwen style, and many of them feature rich ink colors. His representative works include Landscape (Tokyo National Museum) and Landscape (Masaki Art Museum, Tadaoka-cho, Osaka Prefecture).

生没年未詳。室町後期の画僧。出自、伝歴、法系など不明であるが、現在まで20点近く知られるその遺作のなかには、京都・東福寺の高僧了庵桂悟(りょうあんけいご)（1425―1514）が著賛したものが多いことから、おそらく東福寺に関係の深い画僧であったと推定され、文明(ぶんめい)（1469～87）から永正(えいしょう)（1504～21）にかけてかなり長期に活躍したことが知れる。また同じく東福寺の季弘大叔(きこうたいしゅく)（1421―87）が記した『蔗軒(しょけん)日録』の文明(ぶんめい)18年（1486）5月の条には、蔵丘の名と彼の描いた『江山佳処図』が記載され、しかも蔵丘を周文の弟子としていることから、これ以前に周文系統の水墨画法を受け継いだものと思われる。画(え)は、周文様式にいっそうの柔軟さを加え、墨色の豊かなものが多い。代表作に『山水図』（東京国立博物館）、『山水図』（大阪府忠岡(ただおか)町・正木美術館）などがある。
