1755‐1842 A French female painter. Vigée was her father's surname, and Lebrun her husband's. She studied under her father, Vernet, Greuze, and others. In 1779 she became Marie Antoinette's official painter, and produced around 30 portraits of the queen, including Marie Antoinette and Her Children (1787). In 1783 she became an Academician. She also produced many portraits of courtiers and artists, with the delicate yet simple style of the Rococo style. During the Revolution, she produced portraits in Italy, Austria, Russia, and elsewhere. She also produced an autobiographical memoir (1835-37).
