Élizabeth Vigée‐Lebrun

A French female painter. Vigée was her father's surname, and Lebrun her husband's. She studied under her father, Vernet, Greuze, and others. In 1779 she became Marie Antoinette's official painter, and produced around 30 portraits of the queen, including Marie Antoinette and Her Children (1787). In 1783 she became an Academician. She also produced many portraits of courtiers and artists, with the delicate yet simple style of the Rococo style. During the Revolution, she produced portraits in Italy, Austria, Russia, and elsewhere. She also produced an autobiographical memoir (1835-37).

フランスの女流画家。ビジェは父方の，ルブランは夫の姓。父やベルネ，グルーズらに学ぶ。1779年よりマリー･アントアネット付の公式画家となり，《マリー･アントアネットとその子どもたち》(1787)など，王妃の肖像を約30点残す。83年アカデミー会員。ほかに，宮廷人や画家の肖像をロココ風の繊細さと簡潔な様式とで数多く描いた。大革命時代にはイタリア，オーストリア，ロシアなどで肖像を制作。自伝的回想録(1835‐37)がある。
