Japanese: 南種子[町] - みなみたね

A town in Kumage District, Kagoshima Prefecture, occupying the southern part of Tanegashima. At Kadokurazaki on the southern tip is the Monument to the Introduction of Firearms, and at Takezaki on the southeastern tip is the space center of the National Space Development Agency (now the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency). Most of the area is plateau, but it has the largest amount of rice paddies on the island, and field crops such as sugarcane and sweet potatoes are also thriving. Area: 110.36 ^km2 . Population: 6,218 (2010).
