Italian painter from 1462 to 1521. Born in Florence. A pupil of Cosimo Rosselli. Although he showed a conservative style in paintings of traditional Christian themes, he also painted mythological paintings and portraits full of extremely original ideas. In mythological paintings, of which there were still few examples at the time, he excelled in imaginative portrayals of the primordial state of human beings. He is known to have been the teacher of Andrea del Sarto. [Suzuki Tokiko]

イタリアの画家。フィレンツェ生れ。コジモ･ロッセリCosimo Rosselliの弟子。伝統的なキリスト教主題の作品においては保守的な作風を示したが，そのほかにきわめて奇抜な着想に満ちた神話画や肖像画を描く。ことに当時まだ作例の少なかった神話画においては，人間の原初の状態を空想的に描き出すのを得意とした。アンドレア･デル･サルトの師であったことが知られている。【鈴木杜幾子】
