Italian painter from 1462 to 1521. Born in Florence. A pupil of Cosimo Rosselli. Although he showed a conservative style in paintings of traditional Christian themes, he also painted mythological paintings and portraits full of extremely original ideas. In mythological paintings, of which there were still few examples at the time, he excelled in imaginative portrayals of the primordial state of human beings. He is known to have been the teacher of Andrea del Sarto. [Suzuki Tokiko] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
