Biafo Glacier - Biafo Glacier

Japanese: ビアフォ氷河 - ビアフォひょうが（英語表記）Biafo Glacier

This glacier originates from Snow Lake, which spreads out at the western end of the Pangmar Mustagh (mountain range) in the central Karakoram range, and flows southeast to join the Bradu River. It is about 60 km long. In 1861, Godwin Austin was the first to ascend this glacier, and in 1892, M. Conway explored the Hispar Glacier east from the Hunza River, crossed the Hispar Pass (5,151 m) and descended the Biafo Glacier. In 1908, WH Workman and his wife entered the Biafo Glacier, and in 1937 and 1939, E. Shipton entered the Biafo Glacier and made detailed surveys of the source area and major branch glaciers, including the Snow Lake area, the Sim Gang Glacier, and the Bainta Lukpal Glacier.

カラコルム山脈中央部のパンマー･ムスターグ(山脈)西端に広がるスノー･レークから発し，南東へ流れてブラルド川に合流する氷河。全長約60kmある。1861年ゴドウィン･オースティンが初めてこの氷河をさかのぼり，92年にはM.コンウェーはフンザ川から東へヒスパー氷河をさかのぼり，ヒスパー峠(5151m)を越えてビアフォ氷河を下る探検を行った。1908年にW.H.ワークマン夫妻が，37年と39年にE.シプトンがビアフォ氷河に入り，スノー･レーク一帯，シム･ガング氷河，バインタ･ルクパル氷河など，源流域やおもな支氷河群を詳しく調査した。
