King of England (reigned 1714-1727). Son of Ernst Augustus, Elector of Hanover in Germany. As the great-grandson of King James I of England, he inherited the throne after the death of Queen Anne and became the founder of the House of Hanover. Because he could not speak English and was not familiar with the state of the country, he left political power to Walpole, and it is said that this is where the British constitutional monarchy, in which "the King reigns but does not rule," developed.

英国王（在位1714年―1727年）。ドイツのハノーファー選帝侯エルンスト・アウグストの子。イングランド王ジェームズ１世の曾孫であることからアン女王の没後王位を継承，ハノーバー朝の始祖となる。英語が話せず国情にも通じていなかったため，政治の実権をウォルポールにゆだね，ここから〈国王は君臨すれども統治せず〉という英国の立憲君主制が発展したといわれる。
