漢方薬に用いる生薬(しょうやく)の一つ。ムラサキ科ムラサキの根を乾燥したもの。紫の色素シコニンを含み、昔は高貴な人の紫色の染料としても用いられた。炎症、湿疹(しっしん)、やけど、切り傷などに有効とされ、塗り薬などおもに外用薬として用いる。外傷、やけど、凍瘡(とうそう)、痔(じ)、脱肛(だっこう)、水虫、打撲に効く紫雲膏(しうんこう)などに含まれる。
