A basic plutonic rock composed of plagioclase, pyroxene, olivine, etc. The colorless mineral is mainly plagioclase, which is richer in calcium than labradorite, and the colored minerals include augite, orthopyroxene, olivine, and amphibole. Rock types are classified according to the type and amount of colored minerals contained, with those containing mainly augite being called gabbro in the strict sense, those containing mainly orthopyroxene being called norite, those with a lot of olivine being called olivine gabbro or olivine norite, and those containing only olivine being called troctolite.
