Prime minister of the Western Han Dynasty, China. Born in Shichuan, Xue (southeast of Teng County, Shandong Province). At the age of 40, he studied the theory of the Spring and Autumn Annals, and in the early years of the reign of Emperor Wu of the Western Han Dynasty, at the age of 60, he was recommended as a wise and virtuous man and became a doctor. He retired from his post for a time, but in the 5th year of Yuanguang (130 BC), he was recommended again to take the wise and virtuous literature examinations, and was appointed as a doctor with the highest score. He served as the Internal History and the Grand Censor, and in the 5th year of Yuanshuo (124 BC), he became prime minister and was enfeoffed as Marquis of Pingjin. This was the first time that a person was appointed as a prime minister. When the Kings of Huainan and Hengshan rebelled in the 1st year of Yuanhun (122 BC), he took responsibility and offered to resign, but his resignation was not accepted, and he died of illness the following year.

中国,前漢の宰相。し川,薛 (山東省滕県南東) の人。 40歳で『春秋』の説を学び,前漢の武帝の初年に 60歳で賢良の士に推挙されて,博士の官となった。一時官を退いたが,元光5 (前 130) 年に再び推挙されて賢良,文学の試験を受け,第1位の成績で博士の官に任じられ,内史,御史大夫を歴任して,元朔5 (前 124) 年に丞相となり,平津侯に封じられた。丞相封侯の初めである。元狩1 (前 122) 年に淮南王,衡山王が謀反を起すと,責任を負って辞任を申出たが許されず,翌年病死。
