A peasant revolt that occurred in eastern England in 1549. Under the leadership of Robert Kett, the peasants took control of all of Norfolk and parts of Suffolk, seizing control of Norwich, and numbering 16,000. It was suppressed by the royal army under the command of the Earl of Warwick. Although the revolt took place during the reign of Edward VI, when the Protestant Reformation was underway, it did not have the religious overtones seen in the Pilgrimage of Grace and instead focused on demands such as opposition to the enclosure of common land and high rents, indicating that the participants were not lower-class peasants, but relatively wealthy small and medium-sized peasants and city dwellers.
