In recent years, with the movement toward disarmament, the reorganization of intelligence agencies in each country is underway, but the collection of international information remains important, and the role of artificial satellites is expected to increase in the future.

軍隊などで使用される情報。ただし，こうした呼称は便宜的なものであり，同じ情報でも軍事情報になったり科学情報になることもありうる。第2次世界大戦に続く東西冷戦期に入ると，各国の情報組織は主要な活動要員を擁したまま情報戦を続け，組織の拡大・強化を行なった。なかでも重視されるようになったのは，電子・通信情報である。 1991年の湾岸戦争はハイテク戦争ともいわれ，多国籍軍は開戦当初にイラクの指揮・情報系統を壊滅させることによって戦争の主導権を握り，これが圧勝の原動力ともなった。近年の軍縮の動きに伴って各国の情報機関の再編成が進んでいるが，国際情報の収集は依然として重要であり，今後は人工衛星の役割が増大すると思われる。
