Japanese: 活用形 - かつようけい

〘noun〙 The various forms that Japanese verbs and auxiliary verbs take when conjugated. Usually, in literary grammar, there are six forms across all conjugated words: potential form, conjunctive form, conclusive form, attributive form, past tense form, and imperative form, while in colloquial grammar, a "conditional form" is used instead of the "past tense form." These are based on the Na-row irregular conjugation, which has the most changes in literary verb conjugation, so in other types of conjugation and colloquial conjugation, the same form may belong to two different conjugation forms, or different forms may coexist in one conjugation form.
