Panmunjom

Japanese: 板門店 - はんもんてん

It is located 5km south of the 38th parallel and 9km east of Kaesong City, almost in the center of the Korean Peninsula. It was once a small village on the Gyeonggi-gaido road between Seoul and Sinuiju, called Nolmun-ri, but became known worldwide after the military armistice agreement of the Korean War was signed here in 1953. It is still the site of armistice talks, the Special Military Liaison Committee between North and South Korea, and the North-South Red Cross Talks Center.

朝鮮半島のほぼ中央部にある北緯38度線の南方5キロメートル、開城市の東方9キロメートルの地。ソウル―新義州間の京義街道にあった一寒村で、ノルムン（板の門）リ（里）といわれた所であったが、1953年朝鮮戦争の軍事休戦協定がここで締結されてから世界的に知れわたった。現在も休戦会談所として南北朝鮮間の軍事連絡特別委員会、南北赤十字会談所になっている。
