A folk art form. It is also written as Hanyamai. It is also called "Hanyamai Furyu". It is performed at the festival on September 18th at Aso Shrine in Hoshino Village, Yame County, Fukuoka Prefecture. First, two young men in kimono appear on the platform in front of the shrine to lead the dance. Next, Shinbo (a new leader) invites the Furyu group, and a white bear wearing a red bear costume and carrying a sword on his back dances heroically with a katsuko (a young boy called muraji) and a kane (a young boy called chinkan) playing musical instruments. After that, about 20 young men in kimono holding fans dance gently facing each other in two lines. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
