The first political and religious party in Islam. They are also called the Khārijites (singular). Their radical and uncompromising actions disrupted the ruling system of the fourth caliph Ali and the Umayyad dynasty, while in terms of religion and ideology, they were the first to raise the issue of the caliph's qualifications and Muslim sins. In 657, during the Battle of Siffin, when both Ali and Muawiyah I tried to settle the matter through mediation, some of Ali's troops, who opposed human mediation, left Ali under the slogan "The judgement belongs only to God" and gathered at Harulā near Kufa.

イスラムにおける最初の政治･宗教的党派。ハーリジー派Khārijī(単数形)ともいう。過激で非妥協的な行動により，第4代カリフのアリーとウマイヤ朝の支配体制を混乱させる一方，宗教･思想の面では，カリフの資格とムスリムの罪の問題を初めて提起した。657年のシッフィーンの戦で，アリーとムアーウィヤ1世の双方が調停によって事態の収拾を図ろうとした時，人間による調停に反対したアリー軍の一部の者が〈判決は神にのみ属する〉を合言葉にアリーのもとを去り，クーファの近くのハルーラーに集まった。
