taqlid (English spelling)

...It is not simply restorationism because it asks rigorous questions about the origin to be returned to and the traditions to be purified. It criticizes the "current state" of Islam as being in decline and decadence, and recognizes the task of tajaddud (restoration = innovation) to break through and correct the situation, and calls for the resumption of ijtihad without being bound by taqlid (following exactly what has been established by past authorities). The most obvious starting point of this thought and movement was Wahhabism.
