Japanese: ハワイ蜜吸 - ハワイミツスイ（英語表記）Hawaiian honeycreeper

A general term for birds of the passerine order, the Drepanididae family. This family consists of 13 genera and about 23 species, and is endemic to the Hawaiian Islands. Hawaiian honeycreepers are well-known as an example of the evolution of species with various beak shapes within a single family, as a result of adaptive radiation on islands with no competitors. Total length is 10-20 cm. Most of the feathers are mainly green or yellow, but there are also species with red or black. The shape of the beak and tongue is adapted to the type of food and the feeding method.

スズメ目ハワイミツスイ科Drepanididaeの鳥の総称。この科は13属約23種からなり，ハワイ諸島の特産。ハワイミツスイ類は，競争者のいない島嶼（とうしよ）で適応放散を遂げた結果，一つの科の中でさまざまな形のくちばしをもった種が進化した実例として著名である。全長10～20cm。羽色は緑色ないし黄色を主色としたものが多いが，赤色や黒色を主色とした種もある。くちばしと舌の形態は，食物の種類と採食方法とに適応している。
