Inflation accounting

This refers to corporate accounting that is based on the assumption that monetary values are constant due to technical reasons. However, in reality, monetary values usually fluctuate, so current accounting does not accurately portray the actual activities of companies. This is not a problem when monetary values fluctuate only slightly, but is particularly problematic during periods of rapid inflation when fluctuations are large, in the following respects: (1) In terms of profit and loss calculations, depreciation of fixed assets is recorded at less than the actual amount, and fictitious profits due to inflation are included in profits, so accurate business results are not shown.

インフレーションによる貨幣価値変動に即して行われる企業会計をいう。現行の取得原価主義会計は，技術的理由等により，〈貨幣価値が一定である〉という仮定のもとで行われている。しかし現実には，貨幣価値が変動するのが普通であるから，現行の会計は企業の現実の活動の姿を的確に描写していない面をもつ。このことは，貨幣価値の変動が小さい場合はともかく，変動が大きい急激なインフレ期には，とくにつぎの点で問題になる。(1)損益計算の面で，固定資産の減価償却額が実質の額より小さく計上され，利益の中にインフレによる架空利益が含まれることになり，正しい営業成績が示されないこと。
