Power shovel (English spelling)

Power shovel. Excavation machinery for civil engineering driven by various power sources. It has a caterpillar-type running gear and a bucket with a long handle attached to a fully rotating machine base that can move back and forth and up and down. It excavates soil and turns to dump the soil or load it onto a transport vehicle. Most are powered by diesel engines, but some large machines use electric motors. By changing the working equipment, it can be used as a dragline for digging holes and trenches, a backhoe for digging building foundations, a crane for lifting heavy objects, or a clamshell for digging relatively soft soil such as for dredging.

動力ショベル。各種の動力で駆動する掘削用土木機械。無限軌道式走行装置をもち，全旋回する機械台に取付けられた長柄付きのバケットが，前後，上下に動くようになっている。土砂を掘削し，旋回して，この土砂を放出したり，運搬車などに積込む。動力はディーゼルエンジンが多いが，大型機には電動機を使うものがある。作業装置の交換によって，穴・溝掘削用のドラグライン，ビルの基礎掘削用のバックホー，重量物吊上げ用のクレーン，浚渫など比較的軟らかい土砂掘削用のクラムシェルなどとして使用される。
