King of Bohemia during the Přemyslid dynasty (900-1306). Reigned 1253-78. German name Ottokar. After the extinction of the House of Babenberg in Austria, he seized Austria and Styria, while supporting the Teutonic Knights, defeating East Prussia, and establishing a castle on the Baltic Sea, among other things, in an effort to expand the kingdom's influence. He also sought the throne of the Holy Roman Empire, but was thwarted by Rudolf of the Habsburgs. In 1278, he fought Rudolf for dominance over Central Europe, but was defeated and killed at the Marchfeld on the right bank of the Morava River.

プシェミスル朝(900‐1306)のボヘミア王。在位1253‐78年。ドイツ名オットカールOttokar。オーストリアのバーベンベルク家の断絶後，オーストリア，シュタイアーマルクなどを奪取し，一方でドイツ騎士団を支援して，東プロイセンを破り，バルト海に居城を置くなど，王国の勢力拡大に努めた。さらに神聖ローマ帝国の帝位をうかがうが，ハプスブルク家のルドルフの阻止にあう。1278年ルドルフと中欧の覇権を争って戦ったが，モラバ川右岸のマルヒフェルトで敗死。
