A type of drama that is performed without an intermission. It may be divided into several scenes, but usually it deals with consecutive events occurring in the same scene, and its structure is relatively simple. This concept became particularly clear after the establishment of modern drama, which strictly defines the boundaries of time and space. Shakespeare's plays were originally performed without an intermission, but they contain many leaps in time and space, so they are not called one-act plays.
