...a kingdom in Uganda, East Africa. In 1898, the British placed the Nkore (Nkole) Kingdom in southwestern Uganda under their protectorate, and by 1914 had created the new Ankole Kingdom, incorporating the neighboring small kingdoms of Buhweju, Buzimba, and Igala. The Nkore Kingdom originated from the Batchwezi dynasty of the Kitara Kingdom, which once ruled a vast area from western Uganda to western Tanzania in the 14th and 15th centuries.
