1883‐1969 Canadian folklorist. After studying at Oxford and the Sorbonne, he worked at the National Museum in Ottawa, where he made a great contribution to the development and growth of Canadian folklore. He energetically collected folklore from all over Canada, and left behind many immortal works, such as "Folk Song of French Canada" (1925) and his study of Indian lore, "Mythology of the Huron and Wyandot" (1915). He also wrote two excellent novels, "The Fall of Temurahan" (1928) and "Clouds on the Mountain" (1944), which were based on interviews with Indians.
