Born: 22 December 1696, London [Died] July 1, 1785. Essex. British soldier and philanthropist. Member of Parliament (1722-54). Founded the colony of Georgia with permission from King George II (33). Prohibited slavery and abolished it in 1749. Adopted a policy of appeasement towards Native Americans.
