Japanese: かに座(蟹座) - かにざ（英語表記）Cancer

Abbreviation: Cnc. One of the twelve signs of the zodiac. A minor constellation sandwiched between Gemini and Leo. In Greek mythology, it was a monster crab killed by Hercules. The summer solstice occurred here about 2000 years ago. The Beehive Cluster in the center of this constellation is famous because G. Galilei discovered it to be a group of faint stars in 1609 using a telescope he built himself. Alpha star is 4.3 magnitude, and Beta star is 3.8 magnitude, so they are generally faint. Iota is a double star, and its 4.2 magnitude and 6.6 magnitude stars can be separated even with binoculars. It is also home to the open cluster M67.

略号Cnc。黄道十二宮の一つ。ふたご座としし座の間にはさまれた小星座。ギリシア神話ではヘラクレスに殺された化けガニという。今から2000年ほど昔には夏至点がここにあった。この星座の中央にあるプレセペ星団は，1609年G.ガリレイが自作の望遠鏡で微光星の集りであることを発見したので有名である。α星は4.3等，β星も3.8等と全体に暗い。ι星は重星で，4.2等と6.6等の星が双眼鏡でも分離できる。散開星団M67がある。
