This refers to the struggle that the German Protestant church waged from 1933 to 1945 against the Hitler regime's interference with church organization and doctrine. In part, it developed into criticism of the Nazis' inhumane policies themselves. Hitler, who became chancellor in 1933, initially showed a conciliatory attitude toward the church, but soon began to interfere in church affairs through the "German Christians" who were supportive of Nazism. In other words, he attempted to unify the existing state churches to create an imperial church and place an imperial bishop over it, and also tried to introduce the "Aryan Clause," a policy of excluding Jews, into church-related legislation.

ドイツのプロテスタント教会が1933年から45年に至るまで，ヒトラー政権による教会の組織･教義への干渉に抗して行った闘争をいう。それは部分的には，ナチスの非人間的政策そのものに対する批判にまで発展した。33年首相に就任したヒトラーは，最初は教会に対して宥和的な態度を示していたが，まもなくナチズムに迎合する〈ドイツ･キリスト者〉を介して，教会への干渉を始めた。すなわち従来の領邦教会を一元化して帝国教会を作り，帝国監督をその上に据えることを企て，さらにユダヤ人排除政策である〈アーリア条項〉を教会関係立法に導入しようとした。
