Sei whale (sardine whale)
A mammal of the family Baleen whale (illustration). It is found in temperate and polar regions around the world. It is 14 to 15 meters long, with females being about 1 meter longer than males. Its body is slender and has a high dorsal fin, which is 3 to 4% of its body length and has 60 to 65 ridges on the ventral side of its thorax, but its posterior end does not reach the navel. It has about 300 slender black baleen plates on each side, with white setae growing from the edges of their tongues. The dorsal body is bluish-black and the ventral side is white, with black areas extending from the left and right shoulders to the center of the ventral side.

ヒゲクジラ亜目ナガスクジラ科の哺乳類(イラスト)。世界中の温帯から寒帯に分布する。体長14~15mで,雌は雄より1mほど大きい。体は細長く背びれは高く,体長の3~4%,胸部腹面に60~65本のうねがあるが,その後端はへそに達しない。ひげ板は片側300枚前後で,黒色で細長く,その舌側の縁から生ずる剛毛は白い。体色は背面は青黒色,腹面は白色であるが,左右の肩のあたりから黒色域が腹面の中央部まで延びている。
