Soichi Iwashita

Catholic priest. Born in Tokyo. Aiming to study Greek and medieval philosophy under Dr. Koebel at Tokyo Imperial University, he went to Europe to study, but while abroad he decided to enter the priesthood and returned to Japan as a priest. In addition to missionary work through writing and student guidance, he also served as director of the Kamiyama Fukusei Hospital for Hansen's Disease patients. His theological and religious essays that reexamine Christianity from the perspective of Catholicism are included in "The Heritage of Faith," and his spiritual and philosophical essays that reexamine the issue of philosophical worldviews in medieval philosophical thought are included in "Research on the History of Medieval Philosophy."

カトリック司祭。東京に生まれる。東京帝国大学でケーベル博士の下にギリシア哲学、中世哲学の研究を志し、ヨーロッパに留学するが、留学中、聖職につくことを決意、司祭として帰国する。執筆、学生指導などによる布教活動のほか、ハンセン病の神山復生病院で院長も務めた。カトリシズムにおいてキリスト教を見直す神学的宗教論文は『信仰の遺産』に、中世哲学思想において哲学的世界観の問題を見直す精神史的哲学論文は『中世哲学思想史研究』に収められている。
