The automatic revision of pension amounts in line with fluctuations in a pre-specified economic index. A typical method is to first determine the value of a benchmark economic index, and when this index shows fluctuations that exceed a pre-specified range after a certain period of time has passed since the set date, the pension amount is revised according to the fluctuation range of this economic index without amending laws, regulations, etc. Typical economic indexes used in this case are the consumer price index and the wage index. When the former index is used, it is called "price indexation," and when the latter index is used, it is called "wage indexation."

あらかじめ指定した経済指標の変動に連動させて，年金額を自動的に改定していくこと。代表的な方法は，まず基準となる経済指標の数値を定め，この指標が定められた期日から一定期間が経過した後に，あらかじめ定められた幅を超える変動を示したとき，法律や規約等の改正を行わずに年金額をこの経済指標の変動幅に応じて改定するというものである。この場合に用いられる代表的な経済指標は，消費者物価指数と賃金指数である。前者の指数をとる場合を，〈物価スライド〉，後者の指数をとる場合を〈賃金スライド〉という。
