The first Tsar of the Romanov dynasty of Russia. Reigned from 1613 to 1645. Elected by the Zemsky Sobor (national assembly) at the end of the Time of Troubles (Smuta), he first tried to restore order in the country with its help. With Sweden, which had occupied northwestern Russia and Novgorod and was approaching Pskov, he concluded the Stolbova peace treaty in 1617, and with Poland, which was attacking the outskirts of Moscow, he concluded the Deulino truce the following year. At the same time, he began to rebuild the domestic government by imposing heavy taxes and strengthening serfdom, and promoted the development of Siberia.

ロシアのロマノフ朝初代皇帝。在位1613‐45年。動乱時代(スムータ)末期にゼムスキー･ソボル(全国会議)により皇帝に選出され，その協力を得て，まず国内秩序の回復に努めた。ロシア北西部とノブゴロドを占領し，さらにプスコフに迫っていたスウェーデンとは，1617年ストルボバの和議を結び，モスクワ近郊に攻め寄せていたポーランドとは，翌18年にデウリノの休戦を成立させた。一方，重税と農奴制の強化による内政の再建に着手し，シベリアの開発を推進した。
