Tosefta

...The period from the beginning of the 1st century AD until the completion of the Mishnah was the "period of the tannaim (students)," while the 300 years during which the study of the Mishnah continued toward the compilation of the Talmud was the "period of the amoraim (interpreters)." In addition to the Talmud, the Amoraim also compiled the Tosefta (supplements), which were four times the length of the Mishnah, by collecting the oral law (Baraita) that had been omitted from the Mishnah. The Mishnah contains oral law divided into six volumes (sudarim) and 63 articles (masekhot).
