Nunobiki Mountains - Nunobikisanchi

A mountain range that runs north to south in the mid-west of Mie Prefecture, on the border between the Ise Plain and the Ueno Basin. It stretches for about 30 kilometers from the Kada Graben in the north to the Muro Volcanic Group in the south. In addition to the highest peak, Mt. Obora (985 meters), there are other peaks such as Mt. Amagatake (958 meters), Mt. Kasatori (842 meters), and Mt. Kyogatake (819 meters). The mountain range is cut from east to west by faults, and is a tilted ridge that forms a steep cliff on the Ise Bay side, and is composed of gneiss and granite from the Ryoke Belt. The flat surface of the uplifted peneplain at the summit extends for about 16 kilometers and is called the Aoyama Plateau. It is part of Muroo Akame Aoyama Quasi-National Park.

三重県中西部、伊勢(いせ)平野と上野盆地の境を南北に走る山地。北は加太(かぶと)地溝から南は室生(むろう)火山群まで約30キロメートル続く。最高峰の大洞(おおぼら)山（985メートル）のほかに尼(あま)ヶ岳（958メートル）、笠取(かさとり)山（842メートル）、経(きょう)ヶ峰（819メートル）などがある。山地は東西を断層で切られ、伊勢湾側に急崖(きゅうがい)をなす傾動地塁で、領家(りょうけ)帯の片麻(へんま)岩類、花崗(かこう)岩類で構成される。山頂に隆起準平原の平坦(へいたん)面が約16キロメートルにわたって広がり、青山高原(あおやまこうげん)とよばれ、室生赤目青山国定公園(むろうあかめあおやまこくていこうえん)の一部をなしている。
