Nunobiki Falls - Nunobiki Falls

This waterfall is located in the Rokko Mountains in Chuo Ward, in the mid-west of Kobe City. It is the collective name for the Ontaki, Meoto, Tsutsumi and Men waterfalls, which fall on granite rocks in Nunobiki Valley, in the middle reaches of the Ikuta River. The Ontaki falls is 43 meters high and the Metaki falls is 14 meters high. It is said that the way the water flows down the rocks resembles a white cloth, hence the name Nunobiki. The Tales of Ise states that "If the rocks were wrapped in white silk, they would look just like white cloth," and the area has been the subject of many ancient poems. The name Nunobiki Town still remains along the old Ikuta River. It is located about 1 kilometer north of Shin-Kobe Station on the Tokaido-Sanyo Shinkansen.
